In a thrilling college football encounter, the Harvard Crimson triumphed over the Colgate Raiders with a nail-biting 20-17 victory on Saturday night. Despite a false start setback, quick thinking and strategy played a vital role in just a few crucial seconds.
With only 27 seconds remaining, Colgate seemed to have secured the game when quarterback Jake Stearney connected with wide receiver Matt Fogler for a 13-yard touchdown pass. However, Harvard’s response was swift and decisive.
Harvard’s quarterback, Charlie Smith, managed to move the ball upfield effectively, setting the stage for kicker Francisco Moscoso to attempt a game-tying field goal. Unfortunately, a false start penalty pushed Harvard out of field goal range.
With one last play, Smith passed the ball to Teigan Pelletier, who made a valiant effort to reach the end zone. As Pelletier struggled to advance, he saw Nate Bailey and lateraled the ball to him. Bailey then made a dash into the end zone as the clock expired, securing a dramatic win for Harvard.
The victory marked Harvard’s third consecutive win of the season, causing a sensation among college football fans and spreading rapidly across social media platforms. Bailey’s outstanding performance included 16 receptions for 197 yards and a touchdown, placing him second in Harvard’s single-game reception records.
Smith completed the game with 369 passing yards and two touchdowns. On the opposing side, Stearney completed 21 of 39 passes for 188 yards and a touchdown. Fogler contributed significantly with 12 receptions, yielding 138 yards and a touchdown.
With this loss, Colgate’s record moved to 4-2 for the season. The dramatic victory captured the excitement and unpredictability of college football, a thrilling example of how strategy and skill can turn the tide in the final moments.
