American Marxist tech tycoon Neville Roy Singham has been identified as a key financier behind a network of pro-communist U.S. nonprofits. Far-left political influencer Hasan Piker has publicly acknowledged Singham’s role in supporting these organizations, which are involved in political advocacy.
This acknowledgment is significant as it bolsters arguments from congressional investigators and watchdog groups who claim that nonprofits connected to Singham operate more like political entities, despite their tax-exempt status. Critics suggest this could be a violation of nonprofit tax laws that limit political activities.
According to reports, the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control has issued an administrative subpoena to Piker and CodePink co-founder Susan Medea Benjamin. They possibly violated sanctions against engaging with the Communist Party of Cuba during their trips to Cuba in March.
Singham’s Network and Political Activism
Hasan Piker expressed his belief that federal investigators target Singham and his supported organizations like CodePink and the self-declared communist groups ANSWER Coalition and Party for Socialism and Liberation. These organizations have organized many anti-U.S. street protests over the past decade.
Piker commented, “I think that ultimately the target is probably Singham and his operation from PSL to ANSWER Coalition to CodePink — like anything that he has ever financed.”
In a detailed investigation by Fox News Digital, it was revealed that Singham funneled $278 million into a network of nonprofits that support various organizations globally, many promoting pro-China messaging. This investigation also highlighted Singham’s appearance at a Shanghai conference where he praised the vision of the Chinese Communist Party.
Congressional Scrutiny
Multiple congressional committees have been examining Singham’s funding network. Specifically, they are exploring foreign influence, nonprofit compliance, and political advocacy activities. Piker’s description of Singham financing “political movements” may heighten these investigations.
About Hasan Piker
Hasan Piker is a Marxist political influencer and nephew of Turkish-American socialist political operative Cenk Uygur. Piker is known for his influential online commentary, although he has faced criticism for living in luxury despite promoting socialist ideals.
His platforms, particularly Twitch, serve as the stage for his unscripted discussions that often include critiques of U.S. policies while echoing messages from nations like Russia, China, and Cuba.
The subpoena has sparked reactions among activists and politicians. While some far-left figures support Piker, he has drawn criticism for his lifestyle choices and for distancing himself from Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, which issued the subpoena, enforces U.S. sanctions and investigates potential violations.
