Hutsyn Timosciek gained attention two years ago with a stellar performance. Her efforts led Lockport to the state finals for the first time in 25 years. She accumulated 11 kills in a critical supersectional match, showcasing her skills. The following season, Timosciek achieved 356 kills, driving the Porters to state as they adjusted to the absence of teammate Kyla Mitchell. In both seasons, Lockport finished third in Illinois Class 4A volleyball.
As a senior, Timosciek aims for even greater success. She wants the team to surpass previous achievements. ‘We want more every year,’ she stated. ‘We’ve been close, but we’re accustomed to reaching state.’ Timosciek is hungry for victories, motivated by past experiences.
On a recent Thursday night, Timosciek led Lockport to a 25-18, 25-22 conference win against Sandburg. She delivered 11 kills, steering her team to victory. Virginia-bound Kyla Mitchell contributed 10 kills, particularly excelling in a tight second game. Natalie Bochantin, a Milwaukee recruit, posted 12 assists while Emma Consigny added six digs for Lockport, which now holds an impressive 19-4 record. Sandburg’s Bella Maras led her team with five kills, supported by Ellery Dyra’s three blocks.
Returning to full fitness, Mitchell shares the court with Timosciek this season. Following a leg injury last year, Mitchell transitioned from middle hitter to outside hitter. She values Timosciek’s contributions, saying ‘She’s a vital part of our team. Her power and consistency are assets.’
Lockport coach Nick Mraz praised Timosciek’s growth. He highlighted her standout performance in a memorable supersectional match during her sophomore year. Her leadership in kills last year built her confidence. ‘She demands the ball,’ Mraz noted, acknowledging her drive.
Timosciek emphasized how familiarity with state finals benefits the team. Experience helps players prepare mentally and physically. ‘Sophomore year was unfamiliar territory,’ she recalled. ‘In junior year, we knew what to expect and felt more at ease.’
The Timosciek family’s competitive spirit runs deep. Hutsyn’s athletic legacy complements her family’s history. Her mother, Sherrie, played for Sandburg’s soccer team in its historic 1991 state qualification. Her brothers contributed to Lockport’s 2021 state football championship.
Despite past affiliations, Sherrie supports her daughter’s pursuit for Lockport, even against her alma mater, Sandburg. This support is echoed by friends and family.
