A Cuban national, allegedly in the United States without legal status, is charged alongside another individual for burglarizing a luxurious townhome in South Florida. The property belonged to two men who recently died in a helicopter crash in Kenya.
Details of the Arrest
Authorities arrested Geybert Alexander Garcia, 40, and Melany Pavon-Perdomo, 24, on August 25. Court documents reviewed reveal that Garcia is a U.S. citizen, whereas Pavon-Perdomo is in the country illegally, with an ICE detainer now lodged against her. The pair face accusations of grand theft and burglary.
Burglary Allegations
The stolen items include two luxury cars, personal documents, jewelry, and a sculpture valued over $500,000. The residence belongs to Henry Parra, 55, and Adam Hlavaty, 42. Both men were among seven fatalities from the August 19 helicopter crash in Kenya.
Crash Details
The accident occurred during a flight from Loisaba Conservancy to Ewaso Nyiro in Kenya’s Samburu County. The U.S. State Department confirmed five American fatalities, including a Miami restaurant owner and an Ecuadorian intelligence chief.
Home and Community Impact
Henry Parra was a former Navy aviation technician and later co-foundered an aviation maintenance firm. Adam Hlavaty worked as a real estate executive. Friends shared that they were a dedicated couple who loved traveling and community engagement.
The couple’s South Florida home remained untouched after their departure on August 12, but the burglary occurred shortly after the crash, between August 20 and August 22.
Investigation Finds Evidence
The investigation used Apple’s Find My service to trace a stolen MacBook to a nearby residence. A Range Rover’s app provided additional location data leading to the suspects. Authorities found the vehicles and other stolen items, including fake ID materials, at the suspects’ location.
Legal Proceedings
Charges against Garcia include burglary and multiple counts of grand theft. Similar charges face Pavon-Perdomo, with both awaiting their arraignment on September 28.
An ICE spokesperson emphasized their commitment to detaining and deporting illegal immigrants who violate U.S. laws. No attorney was immediately available for Garcia and Pavon-Perdomo.
