Incident at Canfield Fair: Man Charged After Rushing Ohio Governor Candidate

A man identified as Patrick Havas, aged 38, is facing charges after an incident at the Canfield Fair in Ohio involving Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton. Authorities stated that Havas, a registered Republican, disrupted a campaign event by aggressively approaching Acton.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Havas knocked over several audience members as he moved through the crowd. Reports indicate he was carrying a Taser and two pistols. Havas is currently held at Mahoning County Jail with charges of disorderly conduct and two counts of assault.

The event took place at the Mahoning County Democrat Party tent during one of Ohio’s largest annual fairs. The Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office reported that Havas, a resident of Canfield, Ohio, forced his way through the crowd while recording on his cellphone.

Records show that Havas is a licensed nurse and had last voted in 2024. Both Newsweek and local news outlets have confirmed his political registration.

“An armed individual lunged at Dr. Acton, injuring multiple people,” said Addie Bullock, communications director for Acton’s campaign. “Dr. Acton and Eric are grateful for the swift and decisive action of law enforcement and are praying for the recovery of those injured.”

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s security detail managed to detain Havas quickly. Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene reported to CBS News that two elderly individuals using mobility scooters were knocked down during the incident. Although Havas possessed two handguns and brass knuckles, none of the weapons were drawn during the confrontation.

The sheriff’s office will continue to investigate the situation, coordinating with the County Prosecutor to determine further charges. A potential threat assessment by the state patrol is also underway.
