Karoline Leavitt, former White House press secretary, recently shared insights into President Donald Trump’s direct approach to diplomacy. In a discussion on the ‘Hang Out with Sean Hannity’ podcast, Leavitt detailed Trump’s straightforward interactions with global leaders, recounting experiences with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Blunt Communication with Global Figures
Leavitt noted Trump’s unreserved manner when interacting with foreign dignitaries. During a lunch meeting with Starmer, Trump critiqued his policies openly. Leavitt quoted Trump advising Starmer to ‘close your borders’ and ‘deport these people’ to align with British public sentiment. She emphasized that Trump’s private conversations reflected his public statements, maintaining consistency in his communications.
“What he says to the media publicly is exactly what he’s saying behind the scenes privately, too,” Leavitt said.
Tense Conversations with Leaders
Detailing tense calls with Putin and Xi, Leavitt described Trump as ‘very straightforward.’ Although Trump frequently used colorful language, Leavitt assured that in these translator-assisted conversations, he remained professional. Leavitt mentioned Trump’s demands during a meeting with Xi about curbing fentanyl precursors from China, highlighting successful follow-up actions.
In his discussions with Xi, Trump pressed for increased U.S. soybean purchases to benefit American farmers. Leavitt recounted success post-meeting, illustrating Trump’s dedication to domestic interests.
Leavitt’s Tenure and Departure
Leavitt announced her departure from the White House to dedicate more time to her family after serving as press secretary for a year and a half. She expressed gratitude for her role and for the chance to showcase the administration’s achievements.
