Police in Seattle confirmed that bullets responsible for killing two bystanders at a food festival did not originate from the firearm used by a 15-year-old suspect. The teen was apprehended at the scene and has been charged with first-degree assault and unlawful handgun possession. Preliminary tests showed that bullets found in the deceased did not match the teen’s untraceable ghost gun.
Reports indicate that during the shootout, four firearms discharged, resulting in the death of a 19-year-old suspect. As officers escorted the 15-year-old past the body, the teen reportedly said, “Love you bro.” The police are working to identify others involved in the incident.
The shooting occurred during the final moments of the three-day Bite of Seattle festival, causing three deaths, including that of the 19-year-old shooter. At least four individuals, including a toddler, sustained injuries. Authorities believe gang activity played a role in the violence, and they are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses for more information.
An additional person, possibly wounded in the event, admitted themselves to a Seattle hospital but left before they could be questioned by investigators. Police Chief Shon Barnes emphasized the need for this person to step forward and cooperate with the authorities.
Prosecutors have requested the case shift to adult court, a decision that may take months. If convicted as an adult, the teen’s sentencing range could be eight to ten years, with an additional five years for the firearm charge. However, Washington judges have the discretion to sentence juveniles differently, potentially reducing the time to two to 2.5 years if tried in juvenile court.
