A call recorded by a companion of Brian Hooker hints he may have been in the water with his missing wife Lynette Hooker, contradicting his original account. He reported that turbulent waters knocked her off their dinghy near Hope Town in the Bahamas on April 4, while he remained onboard. He reportedly reached shore at Marsh Harbour around 4 a.m. on April 5.
The couple, who lived aboard their sailboat Soulmate, frequently sailed around the U.S. and Caribbean. After Lynette disappeared, Brian contacted boater Blaine Stevenson, who claims the call placed Brian in the water during the incident, conflicting with his prior statements.
A maritime law expert, Kenneth Engerrand from the University of Houston Law Center, criticized the inconsistencies in Brian’s story. Engerrand highlighted discrepancies such as the claim of bailing water while supposedly seeing Lynette drift away quickly.
The U.S. Coast Guard’s recent search for Lynette was reignited by GPS data discrepancies from Brian’s phone, suggesting a different sequence of events. The investigation is now treating Lynette’s disappearance as a potential homicide.
Bahamian and federal U.S. authorities are exploring new search areas in the Sea of Abaco. Meanwhile, Brian Hooker’s attorney has urged for a fair assessment of his actions, asking for understanding of his behavior in distressing circumstances.
