Recently, Tim Mynett, the husband of Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, was observed entering their shared residence in Washington, D.C. This occurred a day after Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents conducted a raid linked to a federal probe into Omar’s immigration status. Mynett, a political consultant, was seen walking a yellow Labrador dog before entering the property.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro has announced her office’s investigation into Omar’s financial disclosures. This comes after the Office of Congressional Conduct closed its misconduct inquiry into Omar. Sources close to the investigation indicate the raid is connected to allegations of immigration fraud related to paperwork filled out by Omar’s late father when she was a child.
The financial controversy began with a 2024 report estimating Omar and Mynett’s assets to be between $6 million and $30 million. However, discrepancies arose as Mynett’s ownership interests in a winery and a venture capital advisory firm, previously valued in the millions, were recently reported as having no value.
Omar’s office clarified that Mynett has partners in both businesses and explained that past disclosures erroneously reported total equity instead of his ownership share and failed to consider liabilities.
Omar and Mynett announced their marriage in March 2020. This is Omar’s third marriage. Previously, accusations emerged regarding her first marriage, alleging it was a part of an immigration scheme. However, a former federal prosecutor noted that an investigation into those claims faced challenges due to limitations statutes.
The Department of Justice confirmed that the search warrant for the raid on Omar’s residence received judicial authorization as part of the ongoing investigation.
