Details of Miami Airport Plane Crash
On Sunday, an Amazon cargo jet crashed after overrunning the runway at Miami International Airport. The aircraft struck two vehicles, resulting in the deaths of five people. Authorities have revealed that key braking systems did not deploy during the crash.
Findings of the NTSB
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) stated that, although the wheel brakes were applied, data indicated that speed brakes and thrust reversers did not activate. Chihoon Shin, the NTSB investigator in charge, mentioned that there was “no indication” in the recorded data of their deployment.
Officials are examining various parameters to understand the aircraft’s performance during landing. Interviews with the pilots are planned to gain insights into their handling of the aircraft’s controls.
Pilot Information and Cargo Details
The captain involved was 55 years old, with 7,145 flight hours, while the first officer was 37 years old, holding 2,655 flight hours. Both had valid Class 1 medical certificates.
Officials confirmed no hazardous materials were in the cargo. The main load consisted of contact lenses, weighing a total of 32,222 pounds.
Casualties and Crash Circumstances
The tragic incident left five people dead and five more injured. Among the victims, seven were inside a van crushed on airport grounds. The plane pierced through the airport fence and hit another vehicle before halting near a parking lot.
