Israel has denounced the British Green Party’s recent resolution, which labels Zionism as a form of racism. This action was described by Israel as a ‘stain on the history of the United Kingdom.’ They urged British political leaders to firmly reject the resolution.
The Green Party of England and Wales, during its conference in Brighton, voted in favor of a motion concerning Zionism. The party defined Zionism as an ideology that supports ‘an ethnonationalist Jewish state’ and expressed support for a ‘single democratic Palestinian state in all of historic Palestine.’
‘The real, material, manifestation of Zionism has been the historic and ongoing dehumanisation, displacement, dispossession, disenfranchisement and destruction of Palestinians,’ the motion stated.
The motion was carried with 1,022 votes supporting it, against 813, highlighting a division within the party on this issue.
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted with a statement on X, claiming the party has transformed from a political organization to one that legitimizes terrorism. They accused the Greens of embracing the ideologies of Hamas, which they argue seeks the eradication of Israel through armed conflict.
‘The shocking resolution adopted today legitimises armed struggle, calls for a Palestinian state “from the river to the sea” – meaning the destruction of the State of Israel – and labels as “racist” the aspiration of the Jewish people for self-determination,’ the statement read.
Israel insists that this resolution surpasses legitimate political debate. They assert that as long as it stands, it marks a dark moment in UK history. Israel urged all British political parties, particularly the ruling Labour Party, to reject the resolution firmly.
