JERUSALEM, Israel: During an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Israeli President Isaac Herzog criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for spreading what Herzog describes as hateful and antisemitic rhetoric. Herzog stated that Mamdani’s actions put New Yorkers at risk. He expressed concern over Mamdani’s social media post calling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a “war criminal” and accused him of committing genocide against Palestinians.
Herzog emphasized the importance of maintaining a respectful relationship with New York, a city he holds dear. He expressed hope that Mamdani’s rhetoric would not cause permanent damage to this relationship.
On the topic of Iran, Herzog described the regime as a global threat, criticizing its support for terrorism and its missile and nuclear programs. He cited Iran’s strategic threats to global stability and its impact on U.S. national security interests. Herzog noted Iran’s history of actions against American interests and its ideological extremism.
Herzog praised former U.S. President Donald Trump for his strong support for Israel, mentioning Trump’s 2018 relocation of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem and recognition of the Golan Heights. Herzog highlighted Trump’s efforts in facilitating the return of hostages from Hamas, acknowledging diverse support for Israel across American political lines.
The Israeli president linked declining American support for Israel, especially among young people, to disinformation on social media. He invited young Americans to visit Israel to see the country’s innovation and contributions in areas such as health and energy.
Herzog reflected on the recent passage of the U.S. National Defense Authorization Act, noting its implications for American-Israeli relations. Despite political divides, Herzog remains optimistic about the enduring bond between the two nations.
Herzog also addressed the significance of Israel’s ties with Christian communities. He underscored Israel’s commitment to supporting these communities in the Middle East.
On international legal issues, Herzog criticized the dismissal of ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan, accusing him of using charges against Israeli leaders as a diversion from personal misconduct allegations.
As President Trump announced a roadmap for Gaza, Herzog expressed hope for lasting peace, stressing the need for Hamas to cease using Gaza as a base for hostility.
