Jack Smith, the former special counsel, appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill. Republican senators questioned him about his investigations into former President Donald Trump. Concerns centered on alleged political overreach in these probes.
A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., has reviewed evidence regarding possible false statements by Cassidy Hutchinson. Hutchinson, a former White House aide, testified before a congressional committee examining the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
According to a source, more evidence could be presented to the grand jury soon. Hutchinson was a key witness for the House select committee looking into Trump’s actions during and after the 2020 election.
In June 2022, Hutchinson testified in a public hearing, sharing details about Trump’s behavior on January 6. She relayed a story from another official about Trump’s reaction to being told he could not join the Capitol rally. This account of an incident in the presidential vehicle was later questioned by others familiar with the events.
The New York Post reported that the Justice Department is investigating whether Hutchinson made false statements to Congress. A federal grand jury is reviewing evidence as part of this investigation. However, grand jury proceedings do not guarantee criminal charges, and evidence presentation does not confirm a crime was committed.
Justice Department representatives and Hutchinson’s lawyer have not commented on the situation. Brittany Miller, a writer for Fox News Digital and a former Independent reporter, covered this story. She is a recent graduate of Syracuse University.
