Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville has spoken out against the influence of Democratic socialists within the party. He believes figures like Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., have contributed to the rise of politicians such as President Donald Trump.
Carville has consistently criticized far-left ideology. He warns that their recent primary victories in Democratic strongholds could divide the party and diminish its influence.
“The most catastrophic political event of this century,” Carville remarked, “was the election of 2016.” He attributes Trump’s win to Sanders, insisting that Sanders’ campaign against Hillary Clinton undermined her chances.
Carville claims Sanders depicted the Democratic Party as too close to corporatist interests, which weakened Clinton’s support in key states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
How did Trump win? Because Bernie Sanders is the reason that Donald Trump is president.
Carville mocked the rhetoric of far-left Democrats who he believes wrongly blame the party for the country’s problems. He referred to issues like national debt and wars as criticized by these factions.
He expressed frustration, stating, “These people are so foolish, it’s astounding.” Carville argued these insurgents focus on defeating Democrats instead of Republicans, which harms the party’s objectives.
He challenged these Democrats to prove themselves by winning against Republicans.
Go beat a Republican, then come back and I will respect you.
Carville criticized a mindset shift where winning elections became less crucial, leading Democrats to prioritize feeling superior instead.
He warned that this approach could lead the country “into the ditch.”
He called on Democrats unhappy with America’s current situation to attribute the blame to the left-wing for the problems the party faces today.
