Jill Biden, the former first lady, recently addressed the controversy surrounding her husband, Joe Biden, during the presidential debate in 2024. During a podcast interview, she was asked if doctors ruled out a stroke on the night of the debate.
Podcast host Jamie Kern Lima inquired whether a stroke had been considered by medical professionals following the debate. Jill Biden responded, “Well, they did. They said, I mean, I didn’t say to them, when I was writing my book, I was reflecting, but I didn’t say, ‘God, did Joe have a stroke?’ I just said, ‘Is he OK? Is he OK?'”
Jill Biden explained that she wasn’t certain what had happened to Joe Biden that night, mentioning he had been traveling and seemed fatigued. She noted that she was not with him in the days leading up to the debate, as she had been on the road for two weeks.
Lima pressed further, asking about the possibility of tampering with Joe Biden’s drink. Jill Biden replied, “Who knows? Who knows?” The office of the former president did not respond to requests for comments from Fox News Digital.
The 2024 debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump was a critical moment. During the event, Joe Biden struggled, with prolonged silences and noticeable discomfort, leading some supporters to suggest he step down from the nomination. Jill Biden’s memoir, “View from the East Wing,” revisits this debate, explaining her concern for her husband’s health during that time.
“I wasn’t horrified. I was frightened,” Jill Biden recalled. “I had never ever seen Joe like that before or since,” she noted.
In her discussion with Lima, she mentioned doctors were present during the debate and assured them of Joe Biden’s well-being, describing the event as an “aberration.”
Her book tour reignited discussions about the 2024 election, prompting criticism from some Democrats. Andrew Bates, a former Biden spokesperson, questioned revisiting these events publicly.
Jill Biden reacted to Bates’s criticism by inviting him to discuss it directly with her. Some suggest her memoir tour, along with public appearances, may not significantly impact voter opinions ahead of future elections. Despite this, discussions persist within the Democratic Party regarding the challenges experienced during Joe Biden’s presidency.
There is anticipation for Joe Biden’s own memoir, scheduled for release in November, recounting his time as president.
