Senior midfielder Jimmy Kelly thrives in his position as a key playmaker for Oak Forest. He relishes delivering the perfect pass to set up goals for his team, the Bengals. Kelly has faith in his skills to assist effectively.
My shots are hit or miss, but my crosses are usually good,Kelly shared.I’ve always been more of an assister than a scorer. I’m often one of the better players, yet not the top scorer. I may not always get the assist, but I often start the plays leading to goals.
On Tuesday night, Kelly showcased his playmaking abilities by assisting on a goal by Ulysses Morales, helping Oak Forest secure a 1-1 tie against Bremen in the South Suburban Blue match. Nate Dunaj contributed with seven saves for the Bengals, who stand at 10-3-4 overall and 4-1-4 in conference play. Jose Cardoso scored off an assist from Osvaldo Mata for Bremen, who hold an 8-5-4 overall and 3-2-4 conference record.
Bremen coach Huber Saucedo acknowledged the intense rivalry play, noting the hard play on both sides. “We played OK, but I think we’ve seen better play when we handle the ball more,” he stated. “The rivalry intensifies the game, leading to mistakes sometimes.”
Bremen took the lead just under five minutes into the game before Kelly assisted with Oak Forest’s response by providing a well-placed ball to Morales. Morales, committed to Illinois’ football team, netted a goal from 15 yards in the 18th minute, making it 1-1.
Me and Jimmy have been playing since we were kids,Morales noted. We’ve developed strong chemistry over the last four years, which helps a lot. When I move, I know the direction he’ll take.
This marked Kelly’s seventh assist of the season, a particularly rewarding one. It feels great,
Kelly expressed.
Celebrating that goal was exciting, especially with our cheering squad. Even the ref noticed the noise level!
Kelly’s contributions have long been notable. He has consistently been a varsity player for four years and became an essential player during his sophomore year.
Sophomore year, my coach advised me to take control,Kelly mentioned.I’ve since been leading the midfield and directing the team’s offense.
Oak Forest coach Alex Alvarez appreciates Kelly’s consistent effort. He can play the whole game,
Alvarez observed.
We trust him immensely; his pressure and teamwork with Ulysses are crucial and lead to goals.
Kelly’s soccer journey began at age four, following his older brothers, Mickey and Will, both former Bengals players. Freshman year, playing with senior brother Mickey was unforgettable,
Kelly recalled.
He was team leader and taught me leadership skills.
