Joan Jett is temporarily leaving the stage after undergoing surgery for a significant injury. The rock icon, 67, has canceled her band Joan Jett & the Blackhearts’ two remaining concerts in 2026, set in September.
According to Jett’s team, she suffered a fractured vertebrae and required orthopedic surgery. As a result, she will not perform at the scheduled shows in Costa Mesa, California, on September 5, and Louisville, Kentucky, on September 24. Jett’s focus will now be on physical therapy and recovery.
While no further details about the injury were provided, her representatives have been contacted for comments. In her absence, Cheap Trick will headline the show at the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa, with X as the opening act. Ticket holders can either attend the replacement concert or seek a refund from their purchase point.
Joan Jett’s concert in Louisville was part of the Bourbon & Beyond festival lineup, which includes renowned artists like Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, and Chris Stapleton. Jett became an influential figure in music after co-founding The Runaways and later creating Joan Jett & the Blackhearts in 1979. The band has released ten albums, featuring hits like “I Love Rock ’n Roll” and “Bad Reputation.” They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
Recently, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts released “Changeup,” their first acoustic album in 2022, followed by the EP “Mindsets” in 2023. The band, which includes Dougie Needles, Hal B. Selzer, Michael McDermott, and Kenny Laguna, completed a major U.K. tour earlier this year and currently has no scheduled performances.
Jett has adapted her fitness regimen over the years to cope with the physical demands of extensive touring. Despite never needing a workout routine in her youth, she now engages in walking and weight exercises to maintain her health. While traveling is taxing, Jett remains committed to performing in the future.
