John Goodman has recently surprised fans with a significant transformation that showcases his dedication to a healthier lifestyle. At 74, the actor appeared nearly unrecognizable in a photo shared by David DeLuise, known for his role on “Wizards of Waverly Place.” The picture, taken when the two actors met at a grocery store, reveals a noticeably slimmer Goodman.
Goodman’s journey toward health began years ago when he realized he was nearly 400 pounds. His struggle with weight has been ongoing, often losing only to regain it again. However, recent sightings indicate a remarkable change. In 2010, Goodman revealed he shed over 100 pounds by cutting sugar and incorporating rigorous exercise into his routine, which included working out six days a week.
He has spoken openly about how he used to eat constantly. Speaking to ABC News in 2016, he noted, “I’d have a handful of food, and it’d go to my mouth. I was just eating all the time.” This pattern, combined with using food as a reward after dieting, made maintaining a lower weight difficult.
Boxing became a significant component of Goodman’s exercise regimen. He explained to The Rolling Stone in 2023, “I dug it. Nobody’s going to get hurt, but it’s just hitting the mitts and trying to learn.” While he didn’t feel confident enough to spar, the activity contributed positively to his weight loss efforts.
Quitting alcohol has also played a crucial role in Goodman’s transformation. After years of alcohol abuse, he decided to stop drinking in 2007. This change helped him focus on living a better life and achieving his fitness goals.
Goodman’s longtime trainer, Mackie Shilstone, helped him adapt to a Mediterranean-style diet and maintain consistent exercise. This diet, along with regular physical activity, has been key to his sustained success.
