Kid Rock’s Unexpected Call with Macron on the Golf Course

Kid Rock recounted an amusing incident during an appearance on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher.” The musician shared how a golf game with former President Donald Trump led to a call with French President Emmanuel Macron.

During the episode, Kid Rock explained that while they were golfing, Trump passed him a phone with Macron on the line. Laughing, Kid Rock said, “We’re out golfing, and [Trump is] taking calls all day. He sleeps maybe four or five hours a night.” This illustrated how Trump often mixed work with leisure.

Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, continued the story describing the moment Trump handed him the phone. “[Trump’s] like, ‘Hey, I’m here with the great Kid Rock,’ [pretending] like Macron knows who I am,” said Kid Rock with humor.

He added that he greeted the French President by saying, “I’m from the Paris of the Midwest: Detroit.” Trump then left Kid Rock with the phone, adding to the comedic effect.

The segment also featured a reaction from Bill Maher who remarked, “He leaves Macron on the phone with Kid Rock.” The audience received the story with laughter.

Among the audience were Senator Ted Cruz and journalist Jim VandeHei, who also joined in the laughter. The story highlighted the unexpected and informal side of Trump’s presidency.

Democratic strategist Kaivon Shroff criticized the incident, stating, “If Obama had done this, Maher would have ranted about its unseriousness.” Shroff argued that Maher’s reaction was performative, portraying a leniency towards Trump that would not extend to a Democratic figure.

Bill Maher, known for critiquing both sides of the political spectrum, faced backlash for his perceived inconsistency. As discussions about the event spread, Maher’s humor and Kid Rock’s story continued to garner attention.
