LaBranche Twins Shine in Crete-Monee’s Victory Over Bloom

In his debut starting role for Crete-Monee, senior quarterback August LaBranche demonstrates expertise in deceiving defenses. He excels in executing misdirection plays, a key component in the Warriors’ strategy of utilizing multiple running backs to keep opponents unsure of their next move. Although the team has reduced its passing plays compared to previous seasons, LaBranche understands the importance of precise execution.

“We practice it a lot,” LaBranche mentioned. “Scoring touchdowns and outsmarting defenses is enjoyable. It’s a new system for me, but winning is what matters. I’ll adapt to any required system.” His adaptability was evident on Saturday when Crete-Monee rushed for 456 yards, defeating Bloom 43-6 in the Southland Conference clash in Chicago Heights.

Running back Dominic Jackson significantly contributed with 102 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries. He also threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Kamal Bryant and led defensively with a sack and two tackles for loss. August’s twin brother, Anson LaBranche, proved crucial on defense with a sack, while Jayvien Pearson contributed an interception for Crete-Monee.

Bloom’s Jovarion Wilson scored with a 4-yard touchdown run. Isaiah Dunlap completed the game with 47 passing yards and 32 rushing yards. The LaBranche twins have become influential for Crete-Monee, thriving in their complementary roles.

“It’s really amazing,” August revealed about playing with his brother. “We have a lot of chemistry, and being on the field together, it helps us make plays.” Anson, who plays both linebacker and running back, appreciates seeing August embrace the quarterback role during their senior season.

“I think he’s managing well with the system,” Anson commented about August’s performance. “He’s adapted well to the passing game and the motions. It’s a lot, yet he’s doing a commendable job.” Crete-Monee coach John Konecki concurs, applauding August’s contribution to the team.

“August has done an excellent job with our offense,” Konecki stated. “He’s evolving into his role, and we’re fortunate to have many playmakers.” August showcased his skills with a 4-yard rushing touchdown and a 17-yard touchdown pass to Aven Atkins, leading to a commanding 43-0 halftime score against Bloom.

Anson’s versatility is evident in his defensive capabilities and offensive blocking. “Anson excels on defense and is a powerful blocker on offense,” noted Konecki. “It’s like having an extra guard.” Anson also tried his hand at quarterback in the Wildcat formation, giving him a glimpse of August’s perspective.

“Playing quarterback briefly was insightful,” Anson remarked. “August and I have been playing together since we were kids with the University Park Lions. Doing it in high school is immensely satisfying.” Meanwhile, August values Anson’s presence on the team.

“We used to both support each other and fight like typical brothers,” August reflected. “Yet Anson has been instrumental in my growth. We’ve consistently practiced and trained together, ensuring mutual support.”
