Latin American Leaders Endorse Rep. Salazar, Stirring Debate

Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-Florida), who is running for reelection, has received endorsements from three significant Latin American political figures. This has led to criticism from some Democrats accusing it of foreign interference in U.S. elections. Salazar is aiming to secure Latino voter support in South Florida and has shared public messages from right-wing Latin American leaders. Prominent endorsements include Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado and Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella. Another endorsement is from Argentina’s libertarian president, Javier Milei, who expressed support by emphasizing her understanding of Latin America.

Public reactions have been mixed. Some Democrats, including Gregory Meeks (D-New York), have expressed concern over these endorsements. Meeks insists on a clear stance against foreign electoral interference, labeling Milei’s endorsement as an intrusion. Salazar dismissed these criticisms, viewing them as affirmations of her opponent’s alignment with a socialist agenda.

Salazar’s approach has sparked controversy, highlighting the intersection of international political dynamics with U.S. elections.
