Lauren Boebert Denies Ethics Complaint Allegations

Lauren Boebert’s Response to Ethics Allegations

Colorado U.S. Representative Lauren Boebert has refuted allegations from a House Ethics Committee complaint claiming she engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with her staff. In an email to Newsweek, her spokesperson stated, “Congresswoman Lauren Boebert rejects these allegations as utterly false, and there is no truth to them whatsoever. This is nothing more than a politically motivated stunt designed to manipulate the ethics process and smear her.”

The complaint, reviewed by Newsweek, was filed by David Wheeler with the House Committee on Ethics on September 17. Wheeler, a journalist and political activist, co-founded American Muckrackers, a Democrat Super PAC. The complaint alleges that Boebert engaged in sexual relations with three staff members and paid $200,000 in hush money to one.

Boebert’s Personal and Political Context

Boebert, a prominent Republican, has four children and filed for divorce from her husband in 2023, citing “irreconcilable differences.” She recently drew attention for voting with Democrats on a subpoena related to the Jeffrey Epstein files and for campaigning for Representative Thomas Massie.

Her family has also been in the news, including her son’s arrest on felony charges. Boebert emphasized, “We take these allegations very seriously and pray for everyone affected during this challenging time.”

David Wheeler’s Claims and Legal Actions

Wheeler accuses Boebert of a denial strategy crafted to deflect blame. He claims this chapter in Boebert’s life shows a pattern of alleged criminal activity and deception. He also notes Boebert has not taken legal action against him, whereas he sued her for defamation in Colorado Federal Court.

Wheeler believes the US House Ethics Committee, with its investigative powers, will reveal the truth through evidence such as bank statements and witness testimony. He asserts Boebert’s denials will be tested under oath.

Additional Allegations and Responses

Additional allegations suggest Boebert engaged in intimate relations with former Florida Representative Matt Gaetz and another party. Boebert dismissively responded, “Creative, I’ll give him that!” Gaetz also publicly denied the claims.

House Ethics Committee’s Role

Filing a complaint does not initiate a formal investigation. The committee first assesses whether the complaint meets procedural requirements before determining further action. Wheeler’s complaint requests the establishment of an investigative subcommittee to analyze the allegations.

Newsweek has sought comments outside regular hours from the House Committee on Ethics, awaiting further developments in this ongoing situation.
