Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert is standing by her son amidst significant legal challenges. Tyler J. Boebert, 21, was arrested on Sunday in Garfield County, Colorado. He faces five felony charges, including sexual exploitation of a child for the purpose of inducement or enticement, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
In a statement to Newsweek, the Republican congresswoman expressed her support, saying, “I love my son. We take these allegations very seriously and pray for everyone affected during this challenging time.” Specific details regarding the alleged incident, which supposedly occurred in early 2024, remain undisclosed. Garfield County Clerk of Court officials indicated that an unredacted affidavit is expected imminently.
Court records obtained by Newsweek show Tyler was arrested and released after posting a $10,000 bond. His court appearance is scheduled for August 19. Previous legal representative for Tyler, attorney Joseph Gavaldon, has not provided any comment.
These charges add to Tyler’s existing legal troubles. Earlier this year, he faced misdemeanor child abuse charges when his two-year-old son wandered away from his mother’s home. Addressing this incident, Lauren Boebert told 9NEWS there was “no excuse” but noted the child was quickly secured by a “kind woman” and authorities were contacted as a precaution.
Tyler has previously encountered legal issues, having been arrested last year related to vehicle and credit card thefts. He later pleaded guilty to attempted identity theft and received probation. In February 2024, Lauren Boebert expressed her heartbreak about her son’s struggles, telling The Denver Post, “It breaks my heart to see my child struggling and in this situation.” She emphasized her commitment to supporting him.
Lauren Boebert, aged 39, represents Colorado’s 4th congressional district and has four sons: Tyler, Brody, Kayden, and Roman. She finalized her divorce from Jayson Boebert in late 2023. Tyler’s son, her only grandchild, was born earlier in the same year.
