London Decentralization Plan by Andy Burnham

Andy Burnham, who is expected to become the next prime minister of Britain, announced his ambitious plan to decentralize power from London. His proposal includes creating a new initiative named “No. 10 North” in Manchester. This move aims to provide greater funding and authority to local leaders.

Burnham has spent nine years as mayor of Greater Manchester and recently became a Member of Parliament. He is the leading candidate to replace Keir Starmer as the Labour Party leader and prime minister, after Starmer announced his resignation.

No other contenders have stepped forward to challenge Burnham. With his potential assumption of the premiership in three weeks, his policies are gaining significant attention.

During a speech in Manchester, Burnham called for a decade-long mission focusing on re-industrialization. The plan includes extensive housing projects, welfare system reforms, and more government control over essential utilities.

I am going to give Britain the circuit-breaker it needs, Burnham stated, emphasizing Britain’s over-centralized nature and broken political system.

He promised the biggest rebalancing of power the country has ever experienced. This plan involves public interventions aimed at setting higher ambitions and discarding the market-dependent trickle-down economic theory.
