Major Incident Declared Near RAF Fairford

On Sunday, U.K. police announced a ‘major incident’ in a town near an airbase outside of Gloucestershire, which is used by the U.S. military for operations against Iran.

Authorities in Gloucestershire reported that homes in Whelford, located about two miles from RAF Fairford, were being evacuated. Residents were advised to relocate to a nearby leisure center for safety.

According to police, several individuals were detained for suspected offenses related to explosives. The situation was described as ‘contained,’ and British Army specialists are currently examining several vehicles.

Earlier this year, the U.K. permitted the U.S. forces to conduct ‘defensive’ attacks on Iran from RAF Fairford. Locals near the base had previously noted that their homes vibrated as U.S. bombers, including B-1s and B-52s, departed.

In response to these deployments, Tehran stated in June that it viewed U.K. bases involved as ‘legitimate targets,’ accusing London of being an ‘accomplice’ in the conflict with the U.S. At the time, a U.K. spokesperson asserted that the nation was prepared ’24/7 to defend itself.’

This development is ongoing, and further updates will follow as new information emerges.
