Economist Stephen Moore has highlighted the contradiction between socialist figures amassing wealth through the capitalist system they aim to change. Moore, a former senior economic adviser to President Trump, shared his insights with Fox News Digital regarding how the United States uniquely provides opportunities to critics of capitalism.
Moore pointed out prominent figures like Sen. Bernie Sanders and online commentator Hasan Piker as examples of individuals benefiting from the American economy while championing socialist policies. According to Moore, the U.S. rewards those who challenge capitalism, leading to the wealth of these public figures.
“There’s no country in the world where you can get rich off of attacking free market capitalism better than in the United States,” Moore said to Fox Digital.
A recent opinion piece in USA Today titled “Hasan Piker’s luxury lifestyle isn’t what Marx had in mind” echoed Moore’s argument. It focused on how the wealth of leading socialists like Piker, Sanders, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren seems at odds with their stance against capitalism.
Moore expressed skepticism about the sincerity of wealthy advocates of wealth redistribution, questioning if they should voluntarily share more of their assets. He noted a recurring hypocrisy among socialist advocates and highlighted data suggesting liberal socialists tend to be less charitable than capitalists.
“If these people really believed and share the wealth policies they espouse, maybe they could start with themselves,” Moore suggested, challenging them to donate assets to the poor.
Moore observed that socialists often attempt to conceal their wealth to appear more relatable to the public. He emphasized that the leaders of the democratic socialist movement are often wealthy themselves.
Moore concluded by stressing the paradox of getting rich from critiquing the very system that creates wealth in America. He pointed out the disbelief among immigrants from socialist countries about the attractiveness of socialism in the U.S., given its failures abroad.
