A high school employee in Maryland is facing more criminal charges following an investigation that uncovered additional victims. James Mulhern III, working at Walter Johnson High School in Montgomery County, faces 12 counts of minor abuse after new evidence was found.
Authorities began investigating Mulhern when two students discovered a hidden camera in the school’s theater control booth on April 7. They found videos of the girls’ changing room on the memory card and informed school administrators.
Footage revealed an adult male, identified as Mulhern, placing the camera in the room. Police executed search warrants at both the school and Mulhern’s home, seizing several electronic items and gathering evidence.
The investigation, which started with four identified victims, expanded to 12 after examining more evidence dating back to 2015.
When Mulhern appeared in court for the additional charges, the judge released him on a $100,000 unsecured bond. He was ordered to stay away from the school and have no contact with minors, with only supervised contact with his young son.
The newly uncovered evidence has intensified prosecutors’ concerns. Each abuse count carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in Maryland. Mulhern could face up to 300 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
