Men Charged in Plot to Attack UFC Event at White House

Two individuals from the Inland Empire have been apprehended and charged in connection with a plan to assassinate government officials and others during a UFC cage-fighting event at the White House last weekend. These Southern Californians are part of a group of five alleged co-conspirators arrested across the nation, with authorities suggesting the plot was driven by antigovernment motives.

Details About the Suspects

Michael Alan Thomas, aged 32, was taken into custody in Piñon Hills, San Bernardino County. He faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder. Bryan Omar Roa, aged 24, was arrested in Calimesa, Riverside County, under similar charges. According to a complaint filed in federal court, Roa and Thomas communicated via an encrypted messaging app and met at least once recently to practice shooting and tactical skills.

The two men used a chatroom called “Vanguard of the Old Republic” to discuss plans, as noted in the complaint. Authorities linked them to the plot a week before the White House event, with a tip from the relative of another alleged co-conspirator, Tycen C. Proper of Danville, Ohio.

The Aim of the Attack

Officials allege Thomas admitted his involvement in planning the attack, aiming to create enough turmoil to overthrow the U.S. government. He reportedly believes a group of elites controls the government and sacrifices children. Thomas also referenced Jeffrey Epstein and suggested his associates were protected by President Trump.

Though Roa denied involvement, he told authorities he intended to attend the UFC event as a protester. His family reported behavior changes, suggesting potential violence, citing increased firearms practice and agitation.

Weapons Discovered

Law enforcement found firearms, a tactical belt, and radios in Roa’s car. At Thomas’ residence, they discovered various firearms and ammunition. Roa and Thomas were arrested before the event occurred.

The Alleged Conspiracy

According to court documents, conspirators discussed deploying drones with explosives to cause chaos and shooting from pre-planned positions. Federal agents learned of the plot when Proper’s mother expressed concerns about his behavior and weapons purchases. Proper prepared for a meeting with online associates and acquired combat gear and ammunition.

Intended Targets

Proper’s journal allegedly listed 46 individuals including celebrities and politicians. Authorities found chats and plans for a coordinated attack in Washington, D.C., during UFC Freedom 250, involving sniper nests and drone operations.

Legal Proceedings

Thomas and Roa appeared in U.S. District Court in Riverside and were denied bond. Roa’s arraignment is set for July 7, and Thomas’ for July 21. Both are held in San Bernardino County Jail. Investigations continue into Proper and co-conspirators Daniel K. Eskridge and Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez.
