Bill Belichick, on the day his UNC Tar Heels prepared to play the top-ranked Miami Hurricanes, faced more off-field distraction regarding his personal life. Reports indicated that Belichick ended his relationship with 25-year-old Jordon Hudson over a year ago, as noted by TMZ. They continue their business partnerships and maintain a close friendship.
Despite the personal buzz, the game between UNC and Miami was the primary focus. Head Coach Belichick aimed to challenge the Hurricanes on the field. The Tar Heels nearly pulled off an upset, but succumbed in the final quarter, losing 38-35, altering their season record to 4-4. Miami preserved its unbeaten record, advancing to 8-0 and 6-0 in the ACC.
Hurricanes quarterback Darian Mensah continued his strong season performance. He faced off against UNC’s Billy Edwards Jr., who impressed with 341 passing yards, completing 28 of 34 passes, and throwing four touchdowns. Edwards connected with Jordan Shipp for a 16-yard touchdown, granting UNC their first lead, 21-17, in the third quarter.
The teams exchanged scores, demonstrating competitive play. Miami responded with an 80-yard drive to regain their lead. With a determined attitude, UNC clocked an impressive 16-play, 75-yard drive capped by a one-yard touchdown run by Demon June, edging them back into the lead.
With time dwindling in the fourth quarter, Miami executed another efficient drive. Malachi Toney contributed significantly, with a key 31-yard reception. Mark Fletcher Jr. later secured the lead again with a two-yard run, setting the score at 31-28.

The game appeared within reach for Belichick’s team until a fumble turned the tide. Defensive lineman Marquise Lightfoot’s strip-sack of Edwards led to Miami recovering at UNC’s 37-yard line. Capitalizing on this shift, Mensah threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Toney, extending Miami’s lead to 10 points with only 2:33 remaining.
UNC continued to battle, scoring another touchdown with 1:38 on the clock. However, their hopes were dashed after recovering an onside kick, only to be penalized for offsides. Despite a second successful recovery attempt, another penalty nullified it due to premature contact with a Miami player.
Miami finally secured the ball on the third attempt and ran out the clock. Mensah ended with 274 passing yards, three touchdown passes, and a 36-yard rush contribution. Toney recorded two touchdown catches among seven receptions for 75 yards. Fletcher scored three touchdowns overall.
