FORT DRUM, N.Y. — The recent unveiling of a new dining facility at the Fort Drum Army base marks a significant shift towards enhancing the culinary experience for soldiers. During its initial phase, known as the soft opening, service members had the opportunity to order a variety of nutritious meals. Options included grilled salmon, steak, and flatbreads, all accessible through touchscreen kiosks.
The facility aims to move troops away from fast-food options by offering healthier choices. In the background, blenders hummed as they prepared protein shakes in appealing flavors such as “Apple Pie” and “Cookies and Cream.”
For side dishes, soldiers could choose from red potatoes and cauliflower neatly presented in sleek black pots. This approach is part of a broader military initiative to improve the nutritional value of meals served on bases.
The modernized approach emphasizes convenience and health, catering to the dietary needs of those in service. With the introduction of these improved dining options, the military is actively promoting better eating habits among its personnel.
