The Miss North Carolina USA winner, Brittany Boltinhouse, had her crown revoked due to past objectionable speech, not because of her conservative politics or Christian beliefs, as clarified by organizers. A Blaize Productions, which holds the state license for the Miss USA pageant, emphasized that their decision was not influenced by Boltinhouse’s political or religious views.
The organization highlighted its inclusiveness, stating, “Our organization includes people from various backgrounds, political views, personal beliefs and values. We welcome and celebrate that.”
However, Boltinhouse, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, claims her political stance and belief system as a conservative Christian woman were reasons for losing her crown. Boltinhouse won the title in June, but her reign was cut short as her past online posts were scrutinized. She expressed pride in her faith, standards, and conservative values, stating, “I will never let my guard down for my faith, and also I love this country.”
The decision to strip her crown followed a thorough review of past social media posts, where Boltinhouse used objectionable language such as the N-word. The pageant organizers stated, “The decision followed a careful review of the totality of information that came to our attention, including previously undisclosed conduct and public content spanning multiple years that was inconsistent with the standards and responsibilities expected of a Miss North Carolina USA titleholder under the agreements governing the position.”
Miss USA President and CEO Thom Brodeur stressed that the pageant does not tolerate behavior undermining dignity, such as racism, homophobia, or transphobia. He explained, “A title here isn’t a trinket. It is a position of trust, extended by an organization and accepted by a woman who agrees to carry a standard in public.” The subsequent breach of these standards prompted Boltinhouse’s removal.
First runner-up Myla Hadley has since taken over as Miss North Carolina USA and will represent the state at the upcoming Miss USA pageant.
Boltinhouse reflected on losing her title, believing her past mistakes played a role. She was awarded Miss Congeniality at the pageant, which she sees as a testament to her character despite past errors. Despite her setback, she declared, “You have a right to be a conservative in this country, a constitutional right. Everyone has a right to say what they want to say and feel what they want to feel.”
