The Mount Sinai Health System confirmed receiving a grand jury subpoena demanding information on adolescent patients who received gender-related care. This development follows a similar situation faced by NYU Langone, marking a significant step in the federal investigation into gender-transition treatments for minors.
A spokeswoman for Mount Sinai stated the hospital is dedicated to protecting patient privacy. They plan to share only de-identified information if necessary, ensuring patient details remain confidential. This approach aligns with New York law, which requires affected patients to be notified if their records are disclosed.
The subpoena was issued by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. The Trump administration has aimed to stop gender-transition treatments for adolescents, arguing the treatments could harm young individuals.
NYU Langone previously revealed a similar subpoena seeking details about patients under 18 who received gender-related treatments since 2020. Both hospitals are now navigating the legal implications of these subpoenas while maintaining their commitment to patient confidentiality.
