National Park Incident Reporting Protocols

The National Park Service has implemented guidance for its staff on handling incidents involving fatalities and injuries. The directives advise park personnel not to disclose details regarding deaths or the severity of injuries.

Last Friday, a tragic incident occurred at Sequoia National Park where a 17-year-old girl drowned after slipping into a river. The next day, another fatal accident took place at Yosemite National Park when a 23-year-old man fell over a waterfall. Over the same period, a body was discovered in the desert landscape of Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. Additionally, a motorcycle accident resulted in a fatality in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The guidance aims to regulate the release of sensitive information while ensuring the privacy of individuals involved in these tragic events.
