Nevada’s Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony is eyeing a new frontier for the state’s entertainment industry: space tourism. With Elon Musk having substantial business operations in Nevada, Anthony might not need to search far for a partner to realize this vision.
Anthony boasts a dynamic career, starting with nearly 30 years in law enforcement. He has also been a regent for Nevada’s higher education system and served as a Las Vegas city councilman. He ran for mayor of Las Vegas and has collaborated with Governor Joe Lombardo since 2022. Their victory marked the only instance in the nation where Republicans overcame incumbent Democratic leaders in both governor and lieutenant governor roles.
Recently, in an interview with Fox News Digital at FreedomFest in Las Vegas, Anthony discussed his career trajectory, Nevada’s economy, and the upcoming 2026 elections. This electoral bout is anticipated to be among the most contested gubernatorial races in the U.S.
“If you look at 10 years ago, Nevada was absent of major sporting events,” Anthony stated. “Concerns over illegal gambling and corruption deterred them. Yet today, we’ve become a global sports hub. Baseball, hockey, football, basketball, F1, NASCAR, and women’s basketball now thrive here.”
Anthony emphasizes that the tourism sector should determine its next evolution. He sees potential in space tourism, considering Nevada’s expansive terrains as ideal for launching rockets with potential ventures catered to tourists, such as sightseeing from space.
His extensive policing career has equipped Anthony with essential problem-solving skills pivotal in his political endeavors. “In policing, the focus is on resolving community issues and enhancing residents’ quality of life. This principle guides my role as an elected official. It’s about improving lives without imposing higher taxes or excessive regulations.”
Endorsed by former President Donald Trump, Anthony and Governor Lombardo anticipate the no tax policy on tips will offer considerable advantage in forthcoming elections. Anthony shares a positive rapport with Trump, foreseeing continued collaboration, especially given the immense support Trump garners during Nevada visits.
Reflecting on his roots, Anthony credits his immigrant parents from Cyprus for influencing his political ethos. Their values focused on hard work, self-reliance, and fiscal prudence. “They adapted by securing jobs and prioritized family. Their belief was in hard work and self-sustenance over government reliance.” This backdrop shapes his public service vision for empowering Nevadans with support devoid of dependency.
