A New York resident, Damon Foy, aged 50, confessed to the brutal murder and dismemberment of his former girlfriend, Alberta Dale. The Ulster County District Attorney’s Office reported that Foy entered a guilty plea for second-degree murder related to the 2024 death of Dale, who was 44 and from Pennsylvania.
According to authorities, Foy murdered and dismembered Dale between March 31 and April 1, 2024. Law enforcement intervened as he attempted to dispose of her body. Concerns arose on April 1, 2024, when Dale’s family in Pennsylvania reached out to authorities due to worries about her safety, prompting an investigation.
Deputies responded by conducting a welfare check and starting a missing person search. Foy’s apartment was first visited on the day of the disappearance, where Dale’s vehicle was discovered, according to the New York Post. The following day, investigators returned after a passerby found Dale’s phone on a roadside and turned it in, raising suspicions of foul play.
When questioned by investigators at his residence, Foy admitted, “She’s in there,” referring to Dale, and promptly confessed to the killing. A search warrant led to the discovery of Dale’s remains inside a suitcase in Foy’s closet.
Investigators quickly noticed dried blood on the suitcase. Upon opening it, they found partial remains, including Dale’s severed head, while other parts of her body remained missing.
Court documents revealed Foy complained about feeling manipulated by Dale, accusing her of using him. Foy expressed frustration in interviews, detailing feelings of betrayal in their relationship. Alberta Dale had ended their relationship prior to her death.
A flower found in the suitcase sparked curiosity. Foy offered minimal explanation, alluding to a chaotic mindset the night of the murder.
Documents highlight Foy’s history of domestic violence against Dale, involving previous incidents with a gun. Dale had warned authorities that Foy would be responsible if she disappeared.
The plea agreement anticipates Foy’s sentencing to 23 years to life, slightly below the maximum sentence of 25 years. This decision was influenced by Dale’s family, as explained by Chief Assistant District Attorney Liz Culmone-Mills. Sentencing is scheduled for December 16.
District Attorney Emmanuel C. Nneji condemned Foy’s actions, emphasizing the importance of legal systems that genuinely protect victims of domestic violence. He stressed the need for real enforcement of victim rights beyond mere legal documentation.
