New York Rangers Place Players on Waivers Before Season Opener

The New York Rangers are preparing for their season opener against the Boston Bruins by making significant roster adjustments. They have placed several players on waivers as they finalize their lineup, according to PuckPedia.

Among the players on waivers, Urho Vaakanainen stands out. The 27-year-old defenseman participated in 34 games last season with the Rangers, contributing six assists. His performance last year came after recording two goals and 16 points in 51 games during the 2024-25 season, which he split between the Anaheim Ducks and the Rangers.

Juuso Parssinen featured in 20 games for the Rangers last season, where he scored two goals and added one assist, along with a plus-4 rating. In the 2025-26 season, he also made an impact in the AHL playing for the Hartford Wolf Pack, tallying five goals and seven points in 15 games.

Dennis Cholowski experienced a mixed season, dividing his time between the New Jersey Devils and the AHL’s Utica Comets. For the Devils, he played 17 games and had two assists. In the AHL, he added five assists to his record while playing with Utica.

Justin Dowling had limited opportunities in the NHL last season, appearing in two games without recording any points for the Rangers. He spent the majority of his season in the AHL with the Hartford Wolf Pack, where he delivered nine goals and 29 points over 46 games.

The Rangers now face the possibility of losing some of these players through the waiver process. It will be crucial to monitor the developments as the season progresses, impacting the team’s composition.
