Haaland broke the 0-0 deadlock with a header at the 79th minute, pushing Norway ahead. He scored again in the 90th minute, solidifying Norway’s lead and leaving Brazil with little time to respond.
Neymar’s Final World Cup Appearance
Neymar entered the game as a second-half substitute at 34 years old. He scored a stoppage-time penalty, reducing the deficit to one goal, but it was too late to change the outcome. The match marks the end of Neymar’s World Cup journey.
After the match, Neymar expressed deep emotions on the field. Teammates, including Alisson Becker, offered comfort as Neymar processed his final appearance. Speaking to Fox Sports, Neymar announced his international retirement. His career with Brazil began with a debut at MetLife Stadium in 2010, also marking the end here.
Neymar participated in four World Cup events: 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2026. In 15 matches, he scored nine goals and provided four assists. In 2014, Neymar helped Brazil reach the semifinals, winning the Bronze Boot. Subsequent tournaments saw Brazil exiting in the quarterfinals.
Currently, Neymar plays for Santos in Brazil Serie A, contributing four goals and two assists this season.
Norway Advances
Norway’s strong performance highlights their contender status in this World Cup. They await the victor of the Mexico vs. England match to determine their next opponent in the quarterfinals on July 11.
Brazil’s last World Cup victory was in 2002. The drought extends for four more years as Norway emerges as a formidable team in the tournament.
