Senator Bernie Moreno of Ohio has called for Representative Max Miller, also from Ohio, to step down from Congress and seek psychological help. Moreno’s statement follows a series of abuse allegations against Miller made by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, who is the senator’s daughter.
Moreno expressed his concerns in a public statement, citing the moral standards required for holding a congressional office. He criticized Miller’s character and described the impact of the allegations on his family.
Miller’s opponent in Ohio’s 7th Congressional District, Brian Poindexter, a Democrat, echoed the call for resignation. He questioned the suitability of someone accused of severe domestic violence for a position of power.
“If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them,” Moreno stated.
The controversy centers on claims made by Emily Moreno, accusing Miller of abusive behavior, including reportedly threatening with a firearm. These allegations have brought turmoil to their family and the Republican Party during the ongoing custody battle.
Miller has denied all abuse allegations. He stated that investigations did not substantiate any abuse claims and that no criminal charges were filed. Miller attributed the emergence of these allegations to the intensifying custody dispute.
Although his former wife accuses him of various forms of abuse, Miller has consistently denied these claims. He remains determined to continue his political campaign, despite pressure from the GOP to resign.
This situation highlights a challenging moment for Miller as the deadline approaches for changing candidates on the November election ballot. Democrats view the district as a potential gain amid the controversy.
Miller, once an advisor in President Trump’s administration and endorsed by him, asserts that he will still campaign and plans to win in November.
