Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore suffered a concussion during Saturday’s game against the USC Trojans. The injury occurred after a severe hit from linebacker Desman Stephens II early in the second quarter.
Moore was sliding to give himself up when Stephens struck him on the head. Stephens was ejected from the game for targeting and received a one-game suspension, with authorities deeming his actions “unacceptable” post-hit.
Following the hit, Moore exhibited the fencing response, an involuntary reflex indicating a serious head injury. Medical tests after the game confirmed a concussion, but both MRI and CT scans showed no additional injuries.
“To my team, the community, and to the World, thank you. These past 2 days have been difficult, but through all of your prayers I have made progress. There’s times I question myself and the Lord and say Why now? but I quickly remember Jeremiah 29:11: ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’. I can only worry about today, and making sure I give today its full attention. I’ll be back soon. Go Ducks!”
Moore was replaced by backup quarterback Dylan Raiola, who played impressively. Raiola threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns, guiding the Ducks to a 41-27 win.
Oregon will face the UCLA Bruins in their next game on Saturday, Oct. 10.
