President Donald Trump, known for his interest in sports, attended the 2026 Patriots Games in Ohio on Tuesday night. He was accompanied by Pat McAfee, a prominent sports personality and former NFL punter.
McAfee is a familiar face on ESPN and hosts a popular sports show. He greeted Air Force One’s arrival wearing casual attire: jeans, a T-shirt, sneakers, and a backwards baseball cap. His relaxed demeanor drew attention as he met the president in the rain, both pointing at each other in recognition.
McAfee is known for his mixed reception, comparable to Trump’s polarizing figure in politics. The sporting world took notice of this public appearance, especially given McAfee’s association with ESPN, a network not typically aligned with conservative views.

The White House stated Trump’s visit to the Patriot Games finals in Ohio celebrated “250 years of American Independence by honoring the excellence, grit, and competitive spirit of America’s youth.” The event, taking place at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio, brought together athletes aged 14 to 17 from across the nation. The competition included a $250,000 scholarship prize pool for the top male and female champions.
On his show, McAfee discussed the Patriot Games and may continue the conversation about the event and his opinions on Trump in upcoming broadcasts. His involvement with Trump may cause some debates within ESPN.
