The New England Patriots experienced a difficult setback with their loss to the Seattle Seahawks, compounded by an injury to key player A.J. Brown. On Thursday, it was confirmed via MRI that wide receiver A.J. Brown has sustained a high ankle sprain during the 13-10 defeat on Wednesday. Reports indicate Brown may be out for three to six weeks.
Coach Mike Vrabel expressed uncertainty regarding Brown’s availability next week, stating, “I don’t know if he’ll be available going forward here for the next week, but we’ll see.” He mentioned that the treatment plan will be decided once they receive the full medical report.
A.J. Brown, assisted off the field during the third quarter, faced the injury while attempting to catch an incomplete pass. The contact from Seahawks cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett’s knee forced Brown’s ankle into the ground.
The seasoned 29-year-old player, initially marked as questionable, was eventually ruled out for the remainder of the game. Before leaving, he accomplished three catches for 26 yards and played a role in the team’s only touchdown by drawing a defensive pass interference penalty.
Brown joined the Patriots this offseason, acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for first- and fifth-round picks in the 2028 and 2027 NFL Drafts, respectively. The Patriots hope he would function as Drake Maye’s top receiver and boost their offensive strength. During his time with the Eagles, Brown’s record for durability was notable as he missed just six games across four seasons.
With Brown’s absence, Maye will rely on Romeo Doubs, who signed a four-year, $68 million deal this offseason, along with Mack Hollins, Demario Douglas, and Kyle Williams for support. Doubs faced a setback during the game, dropping a crucial pass on second-and-14 during the fourth quarter, which would have extended the drive. Unfortunately, quarterback Drake Maye threw an interception on the following play, marking one of three in the final quarter.
