Nick Kyrgios Faces Suspension

Nick Kyrgios, a former Wimbledon finalist, announced his provisional suspension from tennis following a positive cocaine test. The 31-year-old Australian revealed this development in an Instagram post, citing a failed drug test during the Mallorca Open in June. Kyrgios expressed regret and took full responsibility for what he described as a ‘huge mistake.’

Kyrgios has struggled with injuries which kept him away from the sport for extended periods. He conveyed his feelings of helplessness and solitude due to these challenges. In his statement, he apologized to his fans, family, sponsors, and young followers.

Kyrgios and His Struggles

Reflecting on his career, he mentioned the difficulties of letting go of tennis, which has been a major part of his life. Kyrgios’s positive cocaine test was confirmed on July 17, long after his Wimbledon appearance.

He faces a potential four-year ban, though a lighter penalty is possible. British player Dan Evans served a one-year suspension following a similar situation in 2017.
