Pete Buttigieg Rallies Indiana Democrats Amid Rising Costs

Pete Buttigieg visited Schererville while traveling from Chicago to South Bend. The former U.S. Secretary of Transportation addressed 275 Democratic volunteers supporting U.S. Rep. Frank J. Mrvan, D-Highland, and District 1 State Senate Candidate Scott Houldieson.

Buttigieg noted a surge of energy among people across the country. Many Americans, he said, expected life improvements under the current administration but faced higher costs instead.

The good news is that they have the chance to do something about it in three weeks.

Buttigieg criticized Republican policies that, according to him, increased living expenses. He accused Republicans of manipulating voters to retain power and pointed out that the redistricting failure prompted Scott Houldieson’s opponent, Trevor De Vries, to run.

Buttigieg highlighted the opportunity for Democrats to oppose gerrymandering and promote change. He emphasized that the message against corporate greed must be strong and clear.

Houldieson mentioned Buttigieg’s visit as a morale boost for the campaign. Buttigieg’s endorsement, he said, is essential in challenging the state’s supermajority, particularly with support from Highland residents.

U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan spoke about his engagement with farmers and legislative efforts to address rising diesel prices and hold companies accountable. He emphasized his commitment to supporting families financially impacted by inflation.
