A pilot has addressed online rumors suggesting her involvement in a Learjet crash that occurred in a Florida neighborhood on Sunday. Emily Shelton, known for her aviation content on TikTok, stated, “I was recently made aware that there are rumors that I was the pilot of the recent crash in Palm Beach. I would like to respectfully clarify I was not.”
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) provided details of the incident, noting that a Learjet 60 crashed in a residential area near Cresthaven, Florida, at approximately 12:50 p.m. local time on Sunday. The aircraft had departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was traveling to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas. There were nine people on board at the time of the crash.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board have begun investigations into the crash. However, the identities of the victims remain undisclosed.
Shelton appealed to the public to halt the spread of misinformation regarding the tragedy. “I ask that people please stop speculating and spreading misinformation on this tragedy and be respectful of those involved. My heart goes out to all those lost and affected,” she expressed.
Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy referred to the accident as a “horrific tragedy,” urging the public to pray for the affected families and loved ones.
Efforts for additional comments were made by Newsweek, which reached out to Shelton, the Palm Beach Medical Examiner, and the Public Affairs department for Palm Beach County outside of regular business hours on Monday.
