Police Investigate Death Following Fire on Chicago’s Near South Side

Police are conducting a death investigation after a fire incident on the Near South Side of Chicago led to a grim discovery. Officers arrived at the 1300 block of South Wabash Avenue shortly after 5 p.m. in response to the fire. Inside a building, they found a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his head.

The man was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was listed in critical condition due to the gunshot wound, a neck laceration, and smoke inhalation. Unfortunately, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. An autopsy is scheduled to take place on Thursday to determine further details.

Authorities recovered a weapon at the scene. However, there is currently no information available regarding any potential suspects. Detectives from the Belmont Area are handling the ongoing investigation into this incident.
