Several reports indicate that the Giants’ front office is ready to make trades before the league’s deadline. Notable names like Mark Feinsand of MLB.com and Buster Olney of ESPN suggest the team is open to trading some of its high-cost players. First baseman Rafael Devers, shortstop Willy Adames, and third baseman Matt Chapman are reportedly on the lineup for potential deals.
However, star pitcher Logan Webb and other key young players might remain untouched in these negotiations.
Leadership Changes and Challenges
Buster Posey assumed the role of president of Baseball Operations in 2024 after a successful career with the Giants. Despite lacking extensive experience in modern analytics, Posey’s appointment was supported by traditionalists within the sport.
Pursuing a different approach from predecessor Farhan Zaidi, Posey has faced challenges. The Giants’ win-loss records have remained stagnant, and even with increased payrolls, team performance has been underwhelming.

The Giants face hurdles in forming a well-balanced team, despite their financial resources. The farm system has not supplied the necessary talent for substantial improvement. In contrast, the Dodgers showcase depth and strategic excellence, consistently filling gaps and utilizing analytics effectively.
