Authorities are on the lookout for a shooter following a shooting incident involving a Walmart employee in Pennsylvania. The incident took place inside a Walmart store located on McDade Blvd. in Darby Township, Delaware County, on Friday evening.
Police responded to calls about gunfire inside the store shortly after 7 p.m. According to Darby Township Police Chief Michael Sousa, the incident began with a verbal dispute between two men in the self-checkout area.
“It looked like, from what we’re gathering with my detectives, two males get into a verbal altercation at self-checkout,” Sousa said. “One of the males brandishes a firearm, fires a round indiscriminately and hits one of the female Walmart employees in the leg — not the subject he was arguing with.”
The injured employee was taken to a hospital, although no immediate update on her condition was provided. The suspect managed to flee the scene before police arrived and is currently at large.
Police are examining surveillance footage in hopes of identifying the shooter. They have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat, and officers have secured the Walmart and surrounding businesses.
The investigation is still active, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
