Prank missing-person posters featuring Senator Mitch McConnell have appeared around Washington D.C. as he continues his hospital stay and absence from Congress. These posters depict the Kentucky Republican with the bold words “MISSING PERSON” in red lettering above his image in a hospital bed. The description humorously notes him as “84 years old, 5’9 feet, Turtle-like.”
The Save America Movement, a self-described “citizen-led organization focused on defending democracy and restoring common sense,” created and distributed these posters. In a shared image on X, the poster mentions McConnell is “Known for: Blocking something in the Senate,” with “Distinguishing features: Tortoise like appearance.”
Senator McConnell’s prolonged absence from Congress has led to ongoing questions about his health. He was admitted to the hospital in mid-June following a fall and “a mild case of pneumonia.” In a statement from his office released on Monday, McConnell expressed his commitment to resuming his Senate duties, stating, “I’m still working hard to get back to my full schedule of work in the Senate and in Kentucky, keeping up with intense physical therapy per my doctors’ orders.”
A spokesperson for the Save America group explained to The Independent, “We put those flyers up because this has gotten absurd. For more than a month now, the senior senator from Kentucky has not cast a vote, has not appeared for the work of the chamber, and has not, in any provable or functional sense, represented the four and a half million people who sent him there.”
His absence has frustrated some lawmakers, including Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, a Democrat. Beshear urged McConnell to “directly and verbally address the people of Kentucky and provide proof of your capacity to serve, or resign.”
