President Trump Calls for Mass Firings at National Intelligence Office

President Trump recently urged mass firings at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. He suggested employees from previous Democratic administrations should be dismissed.

During an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Trump spoke about his choice for the temporary leader of the agency, Bill Pulte. Trump indicated Pulte would have more freedom compared to a permanent appointee. “It sort of gives you more power, you know, for a somewhat limited period of time,” Trump mentioned.

This marks Trump’s most detailed comments about Pulte, who currently leads the Federal Housing Finance Agency. Pulte lacks experience in national security. Trump announced Pulte on Monday as his choice to succeed Tulsi Gabbard as the Director of National Intelligence.

Trump clarified that Pulte would not be nominated for a permanent role requiring Senate confirmation. Pulte, having been confirmed by the Senate for his current position, can hold the new role for 210 days.

Pulte, a steadfast supporter of Trump, has spent time identifying alleged crimes by people viewed as Trump’s political adversaries. Those individuals either probed Trump or were part of institutions like the Federal Reserve, which Trump claims act against him with political bias.
