U.S. President Donald Trump celebrated the arrival of the newest aircraft in the presidential fleet at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. On June 19, 2026, Trump visited the new Air Force One, a Boeing 747 gifted by the Qatari government. This aircraft’s early delivery raised legal and ethical questions, given its status as one of the largest foreign gifts received by the U.S. government.
The luxury plane arrived ahead of schedule on Friday, and Trump had previously expressed enthusiasm about accepting the gift, stating last May that he would be “stupid” not to do so. Industry experts initially valued the plane at approximately $400 million. During a speech in front of the aircraft, Trump thanked the Emir of Qatar and praised Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. He described the plane as the “world’s most luxurious plane,” emphasizing its transformation into a “flying White House” with unparalleled luxury.
“This plane was transformed into a flying White House at a level of luxury that nobody’s ever seen before, probably even almost outside of an airplane,” Trump remarked. “Nobody’s ever seen anything like this, and in only 10 months, a timeframe no one thought possible.”
The aircraft, known as the VC-25B Bridge, began its commissioning flights as part of its final testing phase, which the Air Force describes as a “final exam.” Following successful tests, the plane will be officially commissioned into the executive airlift fleet for presidential missions.
The Air Force noted earlier that the aircraft would “serve as a bridge until the [long-term] VC-25B is delivered.” The delivery was initially not expected until 2028, but due to modified requirements, the first aircraft could be delivered by 2027.
According to the Air Force, modifications were “carefully crafted to prioritize mission over aesthetics, leaving much of the previous head of state interior layout minimally changed.” Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Ken Wilsbach praised the expedited delivery, stating, “Many thought it could not be done, but the United States Air Force was able to execute and provide a secure, reliable airborne command post on an accelerated timeline.”
